How to use Android’s new Motion Assist, remembered items and shared Keep lists

Google’s September 2026 Android update introduced three practical tools for everyday problems: screen-based assistance for passengers who experience motion sickness, a way to record where physical items are stored, and collaborative Keep notes inside Google Messages. Availability depends on your Android version, account and installed apps.

Motion Assist requires Android 17, while remembered items need Android 16 or later plus supported access to Gemini and Find Hub. Keep notes in Google Messages require RCS and the Google Keep integration. Check what your phone supports

To find it:

1. Open Settings.
2. Search for Motion Assist using the Settings search field.
3. Open the matching result and switch the feature on.
4. Choose whether it should activate automatically when the phone detects that you are travelling in a vehicle.
5. If available, add the Motion Assist tile to Quick Settings for manual control.

Use it only as a passenger

Motion Assist is intended for passengers, not drivers. Google also warns that results vary and that a small proportion of users may feel worse. How to save an item’s location with Gemini and Find Hub

Remembered items are useful for objects that do not have a Bluetooth tracker attached, such as a passport, spare key, document or tool. The feature records information you provide; it does not monitor the object or show its real-time position.

On a supported Android 16 or later device, activate Gemini and use a clear request such as:

• “Remember in Find Hub that my spare keys are in the top desk drawer.”
• “Remember in Find Hub that my passport is in the bedroom safe.”

To retrieve the information later, ask Gemini where the item was stored or open Find Hub and select the Remembered tab. Update an item when you move it

Tell Gemini explicitly that you want to move or update the existing entry. For example:

Remembered items are not tracker tags

This feature cannot locate an object that has been moved without your knowledge. If you need live or crowdsourced location information for luggage, keys or another frequently carried object, use a Find Hub-compatible tracker tag instead. Remembered items are best treated as searchable personal notes about where you placed something.

If the Remembered tab is missing, check that the device runs Android 16 or later and that you are signed in to both Gemini and Find Hub. Gemini’s availability varies by country, language and account type, and the feature may still be rolling out to eligible accounts.

How to share a Google Keep list in Messages

The Keep integration lets people in a Google Messages conversation work on the same note or checklist. It is particularly useful for grocery lists, packing lists and group plans because participants can update one shared document instead of sending corrections as separate messages.

To create one:

1. Open an RCS conversation in Google Messages.
2. Tap the + button beside the message field.
3. Select Google Keep or the available Keep notes option.
4. Create a note or checklist.
5. Send it to the conversation.

Participants with access can open and edit the shared note. Google says RCS must be enabled and the Google Keep app and integration are required. The rollout began on September 1, 2026 and is listed as global with support for all languages. If Keep is absent from the + menu, verify that RCS chats are connected in Messages settings and update both Google Messages and Google Keep. If those requirements are met, the integration may not yet have reached your device or account.

What to do when a new feature is missing

Work through these checks before assuming the phone is incompatible:

1. Confirm the required Android version.
2. Install updates for Google Play services, Gemini, Find Hub, Google Messages and Google Keep.
3. Make sure the same Google Account is being used where a feature connects multiple services.
4. Check that RCS is connected before trying to share Keep notes in Messages.
5. Search Settings directly for Motion Assist rather than relying on a particular menu path.
6. Restart the phone after installing updates.

If the option remains unavailable, it may be subject to a staged account rollout or Gemini’s regional and language restrictions. There is no reliable manual method to bypass a server-side rollout, so downloading apps from unofficial sources will not activate it.
