In the finale, Eddie does not shoot his treacherous brother. Instead, he hands him a chainsaw and forces him to cut off the head of the man who orchestrated the entire betrayal. This scene best shows how far the protagonist has come: from an aristocrat trying to escape crime to a man capable of planning an exceptionally cruel punishment.
The end of Season 2 reveals that Bobby Glass was not behind the attacks, but Gospel John and Freddy were. After realizing his mistake, Eddie saves Bobby from a contract killing, yet refuses to remain his obedient subordinate. Season 3 has been officially confirmed, but Netflix has not yet announced its specific story, premiere date, episode count, or full cast.

What to remember from Season 1
Eddie Horniman inherited the family title and Halstead Manor instead of his older brother, Freddy. He soon discovered that an extensive marijuana-growing operation for the Glass family empire was running beneath the estate. At first, he tried to get out of the arrangement, but every new problem dragged him deeper into the underworld.
By the end of Season 1, Eddie was no longer merely a victim of circumstance. Alongside Susie Glass, he eliminated rivals, killed Henry Collins, and knowingly joined Bobby's expanding empire. Season 2 therefore begins not with the question of whether Eddie will become a criminal, but what kind of criminal he will ultimately be.
Who was really behind the attack on Halstead Manor?
The finale's most important twist stems from a false conclusion. Based on a coerced testimony, Eddie believes that Bobby Glass ordered the attack on Halstead Manor. Convinced that he is eliminating the real enemy, he puts out a hit on Bobby in prison.
However, Stanley Johnston adds a new piece to the puzzle. He tells Eddie that he sold his debt to Bobby, which makes no sense if Bobby was also trying to have him eliminated. Eddie realizes he has been manipulated and, together with Susie, tries to stop the hit. In the end, Bobby does not need as much help as they expected—he kills the attacker himself.
This sequence does more than show Eddie's mistake. It also proves that he has begun acting like the people he once protected his family from: quickly, violently, and without sufficiently verifying the facts.
Why did Freddy betray his own brother?
Gospel John and Freddy were behind the conspiracy. John exploited Freddy's long-standing envy of his younger brother, who received the title, the estate, and the respect of the people around them. Freddy was neither an innocent pawn nor someone who had simply been deceived. He knew about the plan and admitted that he had helped John.
His betrayal continues a conflict present from the very beginning of the series. Freddy believes Eddie got the life that should have been his. But rather than accepting his own failures, he repeatedly chooses shortcuts, debts, and alliances with dangerous people.
The finale takes this family conflict to its darkest point. Eddie has the opportunity to kill Freddy, but chooses a punishment he considers more fitting for his guilt.
What does the final chainsaw scene mean?
Eddie forces Freddy to kill Gospel John with a chainsaw. The final shot shows Freddy holding John's severed head. Head writer Matthew Read explains the act as Eddie's twisted idea of justice: his brother must personally take responsibility for the conspiracy in which he participated.
Eddie therefore spares his life, but this is not forgiveness. By forcing him to commit murder, he breaks him psychologically and ensures that he can no longer separate himself from the consequences of his own betrayal. Freddy remains alive, but after an act like this, he could be even more unpredictable in the next chapter.
For Eddie, it is the definitive loss of his moral restraints. He no longer acts only in self-defense or leaves the dirty work to others. He decides who deserves punishment, then creates the conditions in which someone else must carry it out.
Why was Bella's death decisive?
Bella dies shortly after her wedding to Eddie when a seaplane explodes. She is not simply a brief romance inserted into the plot as a pretext for more action. The creators confirmed that Eddie truly fell in love with her.
Her death therefore triggers a personal quest for revenge and accelerates Eddie's transformation. While he could previously still tell himself that he used violence to protect the estate or his family, after the explosion he acts out of grief and anger. The result is the rushed contract on Bobby's life and the brutal sentence imposed on Gospel John and Freddy.
Bella also represented the possibility of a life that would not be entirely subservient to the Glass family. When Eddie loses that possibility, he stops looking for a way out and begins fighting for his own place at the top.
Why did Eddie save Bobby?
Eddie tries to call off the hit because he realizes Bobby was not the organizer of the attacks. However, his decision does not mean a return to his former obedience. After saving him, he makes it clear that any future cooperation will continue on his terms.
This fundamentally changes the relationship between Eddie and Bobby. Bobby no longer has an inexperienced aristocrat in front of him, someone he can guide and exploit, but an independent player with ambitions of his own. The rescue may create a temporary truce, but not a restoration of trust.
Where is Susie Glass headed?
Throughout Season 2, Susie builds her own contacts and supply routes. Kaya Scodelario describes her trajectory as an effort to no longer remain solely in her father's shadow and not to rely on Eddie as a permanent partner.
This matters because Susie may not automatically be on Eddie's side in the continuation. Their partnership worked best when they had a common enemy. If both want power and independence of their own, they may become rivals instead of partners—or reach a far more equal arrangement.
Will there be a third season of The Gentlemen?
Yes. Netflix officially confirmed Season 3 on August 23, 2026, before the release of Season 2. Guy Ritchie is set to return as director.

What could happen in Season 3
The following possibilities stem from the unresolved conflicts in the finale, but they are not an officially confirmed Netflix synopsis.
Eddie versus Bobby
Eddie saved Bobby, but he had previously ordered his death. Even if Bobby accepts the explanation, an act like that is not easily forgotten in their world. The most logical direction is a power struggle in which Eddie rejects a subordinate role and Bobby tries to retain control of the empire.
Susie on her own side
Her own contacts and supply routes prepare Susie for a more independent role. She may try to build her own organization, mediate the conflict between her father and Eddie, or use their mutual distrust to her advantage. The series has not yet confirmed which path she will choose.
The consequences of Freddy's actions
Freddy survived, but the final scene does not close out his story. The forced, brutal murder could deepen his psychological collapse, his hatred for Eddie, or his dependence on people who offer him an escape. Nor can it be ruled out that he will try to regain his brother's trust.
A larger European empire
The expansion of Bobby's operations creates room for a larger international conflict. European expansion is a plausible possibility, not a confirmed Season 3 plotline. New territories would naturally bring new rivals and test whether Eddie can lead his own organization without Bobby's protection.
Bannik and the mystical elements of Season 2 also remain open questions. The series deliberately did not explain whether they have a supernatural origin or merely heighten the characters' uncertainty and fear. It would therefore be premature to claim that The Gentlemen has definitively confirmed the existence of supernatural forces.
The finale completes Eddie's transformation, not his war
Season 2 does not end with a simple victory over Gospel John. Its real result is a new Eddie: a man capable of ordering a murder based on a mistake, forcing his brother to carry out a bloody punishment, and then negotiating with Bobby as an equal.
Season 3 therefore does not need to find a new answer to whether Eddie belongs in the criminal world. The finale has already answered that. Far more interesting will be whether he can defeat Bobby, compete with Susie, and survive the consequences of his own transformation.
